Fabulous Frogs Classroom Theme

Introducing…FABULOUS FROGS!

2014-04-23_0017

I often get emails from my followers with suggestions for classroom themes.  Over and over again, people asked for frogs.  Honestly, I put it off for the longest time because I wanted my frog collection to be different than anything out there.  It had to be more original than just a typical green and yellow color scheme.  I put so much thought into it, then it came to me…NAVY and TURQUOISE  with green as the accent color.  YES, that’s it…finally.  But, that’s not all…I added the most beautiful paisley pattern to coordinate.  The colors are so soothing, yet modern.

BEHIND THE SCENES:   This was the collection where I discovered glue dots!  Have you ever used them before?  They are FANTASTIC!  I created a 3D effect with my frogs and dragonfly cutouts using these babies!   I placed 1-2 glue dots on the back of each cutout before I attached it to my board.  Stapling cutouts to a bulletin board can sometimes make it all look too flat, but adding a simple glue dot can make those flat cutouts come to life!

My color combination consisted of navy, turquoise, light blue, green, and a little bit of yellow.

This is just CRAZY cute!  I used one of my 14 inch paper daisies to create this ADORABLE lily pad!

Another feature that I absolutely adore about this collection is the paisley pattern paired with jumbo turquoise polka dots!  It’s such a happy, playful combination!  Chevron, stripes, polka dots, and paisley…some of my absolute favorite patterns!

“Why, HELLO there, Mr. Frog.”  Did you notice the cute patterns on their bellies?  Each little frog coordinates with my decor pieces for a beautifully cohesive look!

Talk about major “WOW” factor!

I’m sure you’re wondering how I created these lily pads?  Command Hooks are the key.  If you look closely, I used a hot glue gun to attach the hooks to the top and bottom of my paper daisy.  Tie fishing line on the top hook and hang from your ceiling.  To attach the frog, I covered the metal hook on the top Command Hook with glue (make sure you use a lot), then I took the two frogs and sandwiched them together on top of the hook (make sure the fishing line is in the center of the frogs).  I held it for a minute to make sure it stayed.  Gently, I used a tiny bit of glue around the edge of the frogs to keep them together.

I found that once it was hanging, the daisy tipped dramatically.  I found adorable white daisy clips from Michaels and clipped it to the side that tipped.  The weight of the flower clip balanced the daisy perfectly.  The end product turned out pretty amazing!

What a happy color combination, Melanie! This is adorable. I love how you reimagined your daisies as lily pads– talk about creative! Definitely not your run of the mill frog theme for sure. Just the sort of style that sets you and your talent apart from all the rest. Looking forward to the next reveal!

My friend’s theme is F.R.O.G. “Fully Rely On God” Wouldn’t this be GREAT in her classroom?! I can’t wait to ” hop to it” and share this theme with her! Love it! <3

    • SchoolgirlStyle says

I’ve heard of that before from someone else! She explained that she had to do frogs every year because it tied in with her faith. Thank you so much for sharing this with her! :)

  3. Brittney says

I don’t like frogs in real life, so I never wanted to do a frog theme in my classroom. Leave it to Melanie to make me think twice! This is absolutely ADORABLE!!! You are the best!!!

    • SchoolgirlStyle says

Haha! I feel the exact same way, Brittney! I never ever considered this theme when I was teaching, however, I would choose it now in a heartbeat!:)

  4. Keri says

OMG! I loved the Nautical, but each day is getting harder and harder to choose. I have a frog on my bulletin board for Spring. I love this and who doesn’t love paisley? Job well done, Melanie!

These frogs on the hanging lily pads remind me do much of the book Tuesday! They are adorable! Still holding out and hoping for a train theme before the final reveal!!! Love your themes so much!

  6. Valecia Whitfield says

I love it! I have had a frog themed classroom for several years! I was thinking about changing for next year, but you have sold me on this one. The frogs will stay! Thank you!

It just amazes me each morning when I log on to see what is next! You are so talented. I love how you create the whole “package” in a classroom. I think room environment is so important. You think of every little touch. Thank you for the inspiration you continue to give me each and every day! ♥

  8. Tiffany says

I have a new classroom with walls already painted yellow – do you think the frogs will go well with the yellow walls?

  9. Annie Ramos says

    Melanie,
I LOVE this theme! It is so cute! I check your site every morning to see what wonderful theme you have created next. I think this is my favorite so far. I can’t wait to see the others. Thank you so much for all your hard work!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this theme! I currently have a frog “theme” in my classroom. I use the word theme loosely because it is not a tied together look. I want everything to make my room look like this now…Wish you could come help me with this in Indianapolis! The colors give this a very warm and safe feeling that I am trying to create within my classroom. You are so talented!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!

I wish I could come to Indianapolis too!:) With everything you get in the collection, your room will look fabulous!!!
