One of the perks to blogging is the ability to try new products from companies and write a review! I am such an honest girl and if I am not impressed with something, I would certainly not endorse the product.
Learning Resources sent me this nifty little recording device called the HearALL Assessment Recorder. At first, I was surprised at how compact and light it was. This assessment tool packs “a whole lot of punch” into this little device! I absolutely fell in love with it!
I immediately thought it would be perfect to listen to a group of students read during my Daily 5 rotation. The kids were so excited to read into the recorder! I found that the children became more involved and on-task with the assignment when they knew that they were being recorded!
I also had students read individually into the recorder for assessment purposes. I was so impressed with the how it picked up all of the noise, however, I found that it was much easier when the child read in an isolated spot because it picks up ALL background noises. The name “HearAll” is perfect because that is EXACTLY what it does!
The HearAll is also capable of downloading anything that is recorded. Can you imagine being able to send a parent an email with their own child reading?!? How awesome is that!
What about the child that is always off-task during a group? I know you have some of those! Wouldn’t this be perfect to have in your centers to hear the conversations and find out what is EXACTLY happening when you can’t be there!
Overall, I found the assessment recorder to be an extremely valuable tool in the classroom! In a perfect world, I would love to have one at each center and a few available for the children to read into during our Daily 5. After having the HearALL for a period of time, I can’t imagine NOT having at least one in the classroom.
